Keeping Up with Ivanchuk

This lecture features an amazing and creative display by GM Levon Aronian, who takes down the winner of the World Rapid Championship. Ivanchuk defends virtually perfectly as black until one tiny slip which leaves him defenseless. The opening is a rare variation of the English, which perhaps favors Aronian, as Ivanchuk's wide opening repertoire makes remembering somewhat obscure continuations difficult. Both players seem content to fight in a complicated position until Aronian forces a clearly favorable pawn structure, gaining the upper hand.
